Basics of Cloud computing explained || Why Cloud Computing ?

Today’s is the age of information and mobility – and there is an increased need to link these two together. People are on the go always and need information anywhere they are – be it their office emails, reading on Wikipedia, looking for the nearest movie theater or sending money to a dear one by banking online. Cloud is the technology that acts as the vital link that bridges the gap between mobility and information.

When was the cloud hosting concept started ?
The concept of the 'cloud' comes from network architecture drawings of modern telephone systems and later the Internet. The early cloud service providers included Amazon Web Services, and Google, which uses it for Gmail and several other applications and services.

What are the different kinds of Cloud technologies ?

• SaaS (Software-as-a-Service). Saas is basically software hosted on the cloud like gmail, twitter etc. SaaS is typically accessed by users using a web browser. SaaS has become a common delivery model for many business applications, including Office & Messaging software.

• PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service): This refers to set of development or software tools that are hosted on the infrastructure of the provider. The providers allow users to access a computing platform such as an operating system, database or a web server. Developers can connect with the computing platform and build software solutions on a cloud platform.

• Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): This refers to physical or virtual systems. IaaS ensures scalability of services and resources as per the requirement of customers. Through IaaS, a company can avail services and pay accordingly.
